Kitebrook was among the first schools to introduce the English Speaking Board exams, affectionately known as OE (Oral English). These exams have become an integral part of our school’s culture, providing children from Year 1 to Year 8 with the confidence to speak in public.

The structure of the exams has remained consistent over the years. Each child gives a talk, reads an excerpt chosen by the examiner from a book they particularly enjoyed, and recites a poem or a piece of drama they have learned. Marks are also awarded for their ability to ask and answer questions.

While the children often feel anxious during their first attempt, they usually wish they could redo it immediately afterward and always look forward to the OE exams the following year.

We maintain exceptionally high standards, with many distinctions awarded each year. Our school’s strong reputation ensures that ESB examiners are eager to return, recognising the quality of our pupils’ performances.
